Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Diesel Generator Daily Check
Scope: This SOP applies to all personnel responsible for operating the diesel generator.
Procedure:
- Check the fuel level: Check the fuel level of the diesel generator and ensure it is above the minimum level required for operation.
- Check the oil level: Check the oil level using the dipstick and ensure it is within the safe range.
- Check the coolant level: Check the coolant level in the radiator or expansion tank and ensure it is within the safe range.
- Inspect the air filter: Check the air filter for any signs of damage or blockages. Replace or clean the filter as necessary.
- Check the battery: Check the battery terminals for corrosion and clean them if necessary. Check the battery voltage using a voltmeter and ensure it is within the acceptable range.
- Inspect the belts: Check the condition and tension of the belts. Replace or adjust them as necessary.
- Check the cooling system: Check the cooling system for any leaks or signs of damage. Repair or replace any damaged components as necessary.
- Start the generator: Start the diesel generator and allow it to run for a few minutes. Check for any unusual noises or vibrations.
- Monitor the gauges: Monitor the generator gauges, such as the oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage. Ensure they are within the normal range.
- Load test: Conduct a load test by connecting a load bank or load equipment and running the generator at full load for at least 30 minutes. Monitor the gauges and the performance of the generator during the load test.
- Shutdown the generator: After completing the daily checks, shut down the generator and turn off the power supply.
- Record the results: Record the results of the daily checks in the generator logbook or maintenance record.
Note: If any abnormalities or issues are detected during the daily checks, the generator should be shut down immediately, and the maintenance team should be informed for further investigation and repair.
